Is It About You Or God?

Beloved,

I am looking forward to seeing you over the balance of this week. We have HOPE Wednesday this evening. We have the homegoing services for Sister Vivian Webber on Friday at Zion Memorial with family visitation at 11am and the funeral service at noon. And, on Sunday morning, we will worship with New Bethel Baptist Church for the pastoral anniversary of Reverend Dr. Kendall Jones.

Yes, we have a busy schedule; but, we also have a blessed schedule.

In all of these activities, I am seeking the wisdom and guidance of God. In my own education, experience, and exposure, I could attempt to rely on myself in doing the things of God...or I could do something else. I could rely on God.

When you face your daily activities in life, big or small, good or bad, who do you rely on?

Are there some things that you keep to yourself and other things that you give to God?

How do you decide?

How do you choose whether it is about you or it is about God?

Should there be a difference?

Philippians 4:19 provides some guidance,

"And my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

Everything that you do requires some level of need - physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually - in your health, wealth, and relationships.

If the Apostle Paul is right and the word of God is true, what are you saying about your relationship with God if you do not trust Him with everything?

When we strike out on our own and things do not work out, who do we turn to? God.

What if, in everything, we turned to God first? Might things work out differently? Might we just feel differently about things if we knew that God was in control and it is His desire and within His power to satisfy every single one of our needs?

Does just thinking about that not make the darkest of days that much brighter?

So many questions that all seem to come down to how we answer one ultimate question.

Is it about you or God?

We know what we want to do that sometimes may or may not work out.

We should learn to trust in what God can do and most importantly what God cannot do, fail.

Beloved, as you consider what you are going to do over the balance of this week - HOPE Wednesday, Sister Vivian Webber's funeral service, worship service at New Bethel, anything and everything else that comes your way - challenge yourself to make it about God and not about you.

God can do for you what you can never do for yourself.

I look forward to seeing you this evening, Friday and Sunday.

And, remember, God loves you and I love you too!
